There is no reciprocating movement, only balanced rotation.
Harsh Service.
Forced once-through lubrication, not oil-flooded. No risk of oil contamination. Well suited for hot, saturated, and heavy gas streams.
Disadvantages of Rotary Vane Compressors
Limited discharge pressures.
Typically limited to 150 psig (1,034 kPag). High pressure models reach 200 psig (1,378 kPag).
Limited in high compression ratio applications.
A screw compressor is capable of up to 20 ratios of compression.
A reciprocating compressor stage is capable of 3.5 ratios (typical), but stages can be added to the same reciprocating frame.
A single vane is capable of 5 ratios (typical). A 2-stage rotary vane requires an entirely new compressor frame, rather than a simple cylinder addition.
What’s NEXT for Rotary Vane Compressors
HP lineup from Ro-Flo. Achievable operating discharge pressure increased from 150 to 200 psig.
Dual cartridge shaft seals. An update on the traditional double-bellows shaft seal, this is an operations-friendly change.
