Crew & required parts for assembly of a screw compressor
Unique Challenges
Swing at field location
Offering a service that wasn’t requested
Overview
The Drumheller Service Center received a call from Journey Resources to swing a screw compressor. The crew and required parts were assembled, and the swing was performed at location. As part of the service process, the compressor core was sent to our re-manufacturing department for rebuild, and they posed the question: why did we change this unit out?
Was it due to high hours, or a failure? The original unit appeared to be in good working condition. When we checked with the customer, they indicated their previous maintenance company had told them that this unit would need to be changed out on a yearly basis and nobody ever questioned it. They just assumed this was the nature of screw compressors in this application.
Through collaborative conversation between the customer and NEXT, it was determined that with regular maintenance, filter changes, oil sampling, proper instruction, and good operating performance curves, annual replacement of the compressor was not required. Journey has now ran this unit for approximately 3yrs with no issues and/or replacement of this compressor, saving them extra costs, and down time.
At NEXT, we use this as a lesson. We always ask questions, and we actively engage everyone around us. Servicing our customers isn’t a simple matter of doing what is asked. We analyze every situation, and never stop our search for a better solution.
